Our reading of the evidence

Why This Journal Exists

Permafrost research becomes easier to understand when the observation comes before the headline.

Start with the method

Rankmosaicstarad is an independent educational website for environmentally curious readers and research students. We explain how researchers observe frozen ground, how those observations complement one another and what remains uncertain.

Our field-journal structure is an editorial device. We do not claim to have collected the measurements described, operated the instruments shown or visited every place mentioned. We do not publish fabricated station records or present illustrative photographs as evidence from a named site.

A record is most useful when its method and context remain attached.

Keep the source trail visible

We favour monitoring-network documentation, university and research-institute resources, public satellite mission information and major scientific assessments. Source links let readers continue beyond a short explanation. A linked organisation is a source, not an endorsement of this website.

We are not affiliated with GTN-P, the International Permafrost Association, the IPCC, AMAP or the institutions named in our explainers. Their work should be consulted directly for datasets, official definitions, current assessments and research-specific methods.

Make room for correction

Accessible explanations must simplify, but simplification should not hide a material limit. We distinguish seasonal variation from long-term change, surface patterns from deep measurements and plausible mechanisms from demonstrated causes.
